South African President Cyril Ramaphosa appealed, BRICS countries should take these steps for peace in Gaza

Amidst the Israel-Hamas war, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has made a big appeal to bring peace in Gaza. He called on the BRICS group of countries to make united efforts to bring about a just and lasting peace between Israel and Hamas. Ramaphosa on Tuesday addressed an online special joint meeting of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) leaders and invited BRICS members on the situation in West Asia. He also proposed the deployment of ‘United Nations Rapid Deployment Force’ in Palestine.

Ramaphosa said the purpose of the force’s deployment includes monitoring the cessation of hostilities and protecting civilians, as well as facilitating comprehensive negotiations led and owned by the Palestinians and Israelis with the support of the United Nations. Apart from the leaders of the BRICS countries, the leaders of the new BRICS partners – Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates also participated in the online meeting. “As an important voice of the Global South representing a large portion of humanity, we believe that BRICS has an important role to play in the broader international effort to achieve a just and lasting peace,” Ramaphosa said in his opening remarks. ”

Ramaphosa said – Israel committed war crimes

The term ‘Global South’ is generally used to refer to economically less developed countries. Calling the meeting “to address an issue of grave global concern”, Ramaphosa said the world was mourning the thousands of people killed in Gaza after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, killing more than 1,200 people. It has witnessed the devastating murder of thousands of people, many of whom are women and children. “More than 11,000 residents of Gaza have been killed,” he said. More than several thousand people have been injured. Infrastructure, homes, hospitals and other public facilities have been destroyed.
