Sri Lanka arrested 11 Indian fishermen, CM Stalin wrote a letter to Jaishankar – Hindustan News Hub

Colombo: Sri Lanka is repeatedly arresting Indian fishermen. This time again the Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 11 more Indian fishermen for allegedly poaching in the country’s waters. So far this year the total number of arrested Indian fishermen has reached 333. This has been said in an official release. After this incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has written a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. He has described this repeated action by Sri Lanka as worrying.

The Sri Lankan Navy said in a press release that on Friday, 11 Indian fishermen were arrested and their fishing boat was seized near Point Pedro coast in Jaffna Northern Province. It said that the arrested persons were brought to Kankesanthurai fishing port for further action. With this, the number of Indians arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy this year has increased to 333 and the number of their vessels seized has increased to 45, according to the press release.

Stalin wrote about the pain of fishermen in the letter

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has written a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar after the arrest of 11 more fishermen. He said, “I have repeatedly highlighted that such incidents are happening at an alarming frequency. In 2024 alone, 324 fishermen and 44 boats were caught by the Sri Lankan Navy. Fishermen in Tamil Nadu are facing great difficulties due to repeated arrests, which is seriously affecting their means of subsistence. (Language)
