Sri Lanka gets country’s second woman prime minister, Harini Amarasuriya also took oath – Hindustan News Hub

Colombo: After Anura Kumara Dissanayake became the President of Sri Lanka, now the new Prime Minister has also taken oath. Harini Amarasuriya was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka on Tuesday. She has become the second woman leader to hold this post after Sirimavo Bandaranaike in the year 2000. Let us tell you that 54-year-old leader of ‘National People’s Power’ (NPP) Amarasuriya was sworn in by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Dissanayake has appointed a four-member cabinet including himself. Amarasuriya has been given charge of the ministries of Justice, Education, Labor, Industry, Science and Technology, Health and Investment. He has replaced Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene, who resigned from his post after the presidential election. NPP MPs – Vijitha Herath and Lakshman Nipurnachchi took oath as cabinet ministers. They will work as caretaker cabinet ministers after the dissolution of Parliament. Officials said parliamentary elections may be held at the end of November. After winning the presidential election, 56-year-old Dissanayake was sworn in as the ninth President of Sri Lanka on Sunday. (Language)

IMF to hold talks with Dissanayake-led government

After Sri Lanka got a new President and Prime Minister, another good news has come out. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will now talk to Sri Lanka, which is facing economic crisis, about reforms. The IMF said on Tuesday that it is excited to work with the new government led by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and will soon discuss the timing of the next review of the country’s loan program. The IMF said in a statement, “We look forward to working closely with President Dissanayake and his team to build on the hard-earned achievements that have helped Sri Lanka get out of its worst economic crisis in 2022. ” (Language)
