According to the country’s Yonhap news agency, during a Halloween party in Seoul, a stampede broke out as they proceeded on a small street.

Emergency officials received at least 81 calls from people in the Itawan area, saying they were having difficulty breathing. Choi Cheon-sik, an official with the National Fire Agency, said about 100 people were reported injured, with dozens suffering cardiac arrest.

Deployed all emergency workers

He said the crowd was near the Hamilton Hotel, a popular party venue in the city. He said that more than 400 emergency workers have been deployed from across the country, including almost all the staff available in Seoul. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon is touring Europe, but after this news he has decided to return home.

President gave instructions

South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol said in a statement that officials should ensure speedy treatment of the injured and review the security of Halloween party venues. He also directed the Health Ministry to rapidly deploy disaster medical assistance teams and provide beds in nearby hospitals for the treatment of the injured.
