United Nations: The United Nations Security Council has appealed to the warring groups in Sudan to immediately stop the conflict during the holy month of Ramadan for the Muslim community. UNSC said that if the fighting stops, food items and other aid can be provided to more than 2 crore people. Let us tell you that the month of Ramadan is expected to start from Monday. Britain presented a proposal in the Security Council regarding stopping the conflict, in which 14 countries out of the 15-member council voted in support and only Russia was not present during this period. There is an atmosphere of anarchy in Sudan since April.

The long-running tension between the forces led by General Abdel Fattah Burhan and the ‘Rapid Support Forces’ led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo turned into conflict. This conflict, which started from the streets of the capital Khartoum, spread to other parts of the country as well. Thousands of people have died in this so far. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday urged both sides to maintain a ceasefire during Ramadan. Burhan welcomed Guterres’ appeal but Sudan’s Foreign Ministry released a list on Friday saying the conditions were necessary for a ceasefire.

‘Danger of the world’s biggest hunger crisis’

According to reports, the ‘Rapid Support Forces’ on the list of Sudan’s Foreign Ministry have not yet responded. Let us tell you that the top official of the United Nations Food Agency had warned on Wednesday that due to the devastating conflict that has been going on between rival military generals in Sudan for almost a year, there is a danger of creating the world’s biggest hunger crisis. World Food Program chief Cindy McCain said the ongoing conflict in Sudan has devastated the lives of millions of people in this North African country. McCain had said these things after completing his visit to the neighboring country South Sudan.
