Israel made this big announcement
Israel has said it will extend the ceasefire by one day for every 10 additional hostages released. But Israel also says it is committed to crushing Hamas’s military capabilities and ending its 16-year rule over Gaza. This would likely mean expanding its ground offensive from devastated northern Gaza to the south, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have taken refuge in UN shelters. Despite the pace of aid distribution under the ceasefire, serious conditions remain.
Third release of hostages and prisoners on Sunday
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Hamas freed 17 more hostages, including 14 Israelis, in the third exchange as part of a four-day ceasefire. In return, Israel released 39 Palestinian prisoners. The hospital said most of the hostages appeared to be physically fine, but 84-year-old Elma Avraham was taken to Israel’s Soroka Medical Center in life-threatening condition due to inadequate care. Those released on Sunday included nine children and three Thai citizens.
