Karachi: In Pakistan’s Sindh province, the mob did not allow the family to bury the body of a doctor accused of blasphemy, but forcibly burnt it. The doctor was shot by a policeman in Sindh province. The doctor’s name was Shahnawaz Qambar. According to the police, the doctor had refused to surrender and was trying to run away, which is why he had to be shot. Qambar’s body was handed over to the family on Thursday evening for burial. His family consists of three sons, a daughter and wife. Police station in-charge Niaz Khoso of the place where the doctor was shot has confirmed the incident. He said that the doctor and his companions fired at the police, after which retaliatory action was taken.

“The family took the body to their native village Janhero for burial when a mob gathered and demanded that the body be handed over,” local police official Shakoor Rashid said. Rashid said the family fled the scene without burying the body after being surrounded by the mob. He said the mob found Qambar’s body in a car left behind and set it on fire.
Crowd had also gone to the clinic
In the case, the police of Umarkot city had registered an FIR against the doctor under section 295C of the Pakistan Penal Code for allegedly posting ‘blasphemous material’ on social media. Earlier, a mob had come to his clinic to catch the doctor but he somehow managed to escape.
‘Hacked social media account’
Earlier this week, Maulana Sabir Somroo of the local mosque of Umarkot had also lodged an FIR with the police regarding blasphemy. Amidst this entire exercise, Shahnawaz Qambar had shared a video on social media claiming that his social media account was hacked and blasphemous material was posted and he cannot even think of doing such a thing.
