Turkey: A man sentenced to 8,658 years in prison in Istanbul, what crime did he commit?

During a retrial, the Istanbul High Criminal Court sentenced Oktar to 8,658 years in prison on a number of charges, including sexual abuse and deprivation of liberty, Anadolu news agency reported. The agency said the court also sentenced 10 other suspects to 8,658 years in prison.

Oktar, who is seen by critics as a cult leader, has faced criticism for his programs on the online A9 television channel and has been condemned by several Turkish religious leaders. In a major crackdown on his entire group, he was taken into custody in 2018 following an investigation by the Financial Crimes Unit of the Istanbul Police. This year now he has been sentenced to 8, 658 years.
