WashingtonIndia has clearly told the American media how much oil is being bought from Russia. India’s Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has clarified in a conversation with American news channel CNN that India has bought only 0.2 percent of the total oil requirement from Russia, while most of the oil has been taken from Iraq. The war between Russia and Ukraine started in February this year. After this war, sanctions were imposed on Russia.
question on india
Since the sanctions, many countries of Europe including America have objected to why India is buying oil from Russia at a discount. Before Puri, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had also responded bluntly on this situation. Hardeep Singh Puri told CNN that if compared, India is importing only one third of the oil that Europe buys till noon from Russia. Hardeep Puri made it clear to the American media that last month, most oil has been bought from Iraq, not Russia.
Puri said no pressure
Puri clearly said that India is not feeling any pressure on this issue. There is no pressure on the Modi government of the country. The country is currently the fifth largest economy and is capable of taking decisions in its own interest. Puri said that it is the moral responsibility of the government to fulfill the needs of the people of the country. In a country of 1.3 billion, people need a supply of energy. Hardeep Puri said that the government has ensured that there is no increase in oil prices in the country. Puri said that India does not buy oil keeping in mind any country, but imports it keeping in mind the needs. In such a situation, there is no regret in buying so much oil from Russia.
Jaishankar also said the same
Earlier, Jaishankar had said that India currently buys one to two per cent of its oil from Russia, while 10 per cent of its oil is imported from America. US President Joe Biden had said that it is not in India’s interest to accelerate or increase its oil imports from Russia. The External Affairs Minister had said that it would be better to pay attention to how much oil India is buying from Russia, once the figures of Europe are also seen. India buys energy items from Russia only to meet its needs.
