Dubai: Big news related to the Russia-Ukraine war is coming out. Not even 24 hours have passed since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ukraine and it is being claimed that a big agreement has been reached between the two countries. This claim has been made by the United Arab Emirates in a Reuters report. After this, it is believed that the ground for Russia and Ukraine to come to the negotiating table for peace talks can also be prepared after this agreement. At present, the latest agreement has been reached under the mediation of UAE.

Following this agreement, Russia and Ukraine are set to exchange 115 prisoners each today. This is the first such exchange of prisoners since Ukraine attacked inside Russia this month, an UAE official said. The Emirati official spoke on condition of anonymity as the details were not yet public. However, there was no immediate comment from Russian and Ukrainian officials about this agreement.

PM Modi has appealed to Russia and Ukraine for peace in the war

PM Modi has also appealed to Ukraine and Russia for peace through talks in the war. With this, both sides now seem to be almost agreeing. It is believed that the effect of this appeal of PM Modi can be seen in the coming time. Both countries may agree to talks. Both Russia and Ukraine are seen relying on India’s mediation for this. At present, this will be the seventh such exchange in which the United Arab Emirates has mediated since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Abu Dhabi, a close security partner of the United States, has maintained cordial relations with Moscow throughout the war, disappointing some Western officials. It has also strengthened ties with Kiev.

UAE has so far exchanged 1788 prisoners

The UAE has facilitated the exchange of 1,788 prisoners between Russia and Ukraine so far. UAE officials say their ability to speak to many international leaders means they can effectively mediate between the parties, as well as promote cooperation and security. On August 6, Ukrainian forces launched a surprise attack in Russia’s Kursk region, the largest attack inside Russian territory by a foreign power since World War II. Kiev has said it has created a buffer zone in the region, using it to prevent Russia from sending thousands of troops into Ukraine in 2022. (Reuters)
