Dubai: Yemen’s Houthis are continuously challenging America and Britain in the Gulf of Aden. Despite repeated counter-attacks by the US and UK, Yemen’s Houthis have not stopped carrying out attacks in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. Rebels have again targeted a ship in the early hours of Sunday. Houthi fighters are targeting commercial and other ships in the vital waterway leading to the Red Sea. There is no news of any casualty so far in this horrific attack by Houthis.
The British Army’s ‘United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations’ center said about the attack that it took place in the offshore area of Aden. Aden is a port city in southern Yemen that is home to the country’s government-in-exile. Houthi fighters have repeatedly launched drone and missile attacks on the same area, disrupting the movement of fuel and other cargo ships through the Gulf of Aden. These rebels have not immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. At the same time, the Central Command of the US Army said that it has carried out several attacks targeting the Houthis.
America’s Central Command retaliated
The Central Command said it destroyed five drone boats and one drone in Houthi-controlled territory in Yemen on Saturday. It is the high number of drone boats destroyed that is unusual. The US military shot down a Houthi drone over the Red Sea, while another drone is believed to have crashed. “There are no reports of damage or injuries from nearby ships,” the Central Command said. The Houthis began attacking ships in November. They say they want to force Israel to stop its offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. (AP)
