Recently, Prakash Raj talked about the struggles he had to face while releasing the film. The director said that the biggest hurdle for him was the Congress party, because they felt that one of the characters was based on Sonia Gandhi.
Congress created a hindrance
Prakash Jha, while speaking to ANI, shared that some members of the Congress party believed that Katrina Kaif’s character was based on Sonia Gandhi and they flew in to watch the film during the censor screening and the film was allowed to get the censor certificate. Didn’t give. He shared, ‘I remember when I made Raajneeti, some members of the Congress party came for the Censor Board screening of the film. They rejected my film and did not give us a certificate. He felt that Katrina’s character was inspired by Sonia Gandhi. I moved the tribunal, which ultimately overruled the panel and gave us a certificate to proceed with the film. I was even ready to take the matter to the Supreme Court because I knew there was nothing wrong in my film. Jha’s film was highly appreciated by the critics and audience at that time.
Katrina used to follow Priyanka, not Sonia
During the promotion of the film in 2010, Katrina had told that to prepare for her character, she had not followed Sonia Gandhi but Priyanka Gandhi. Speaking to PTI, he had told, ‘As part of the basic exercise I followed Priyanka because she is a very strong person. I think she is very independent and has the right mix of modern values, ethics and everything and she is young.

Sonia had already told things related to the character
Actually, Katrina had clearly denied that her character is based on Sonia Gandhi. He had said, ‘I spent some years in England as you all know my mother was English. Sonia madam also has foreign connections. She wears a saree, I also wear a saree in the film, so people connected, which is quite logical. I can understand it. What I feel is most important is that people should understand that I am not playing Sonia Gandhi because then they will come with the wrong expectation.
