Padmashree awarded veteran actor Sadhu Mehar passes away, Prime Minister Modi expressed grief – India TV Hindi

Veteran actor and director Sadhu Mehar, who left his mark in both Hindi and Odia film industries, died in Mumbai on Friday at the age of 84. Hearing the news of the demise of famous actor, director and Padmashree awardee Sadhu Mehar has come as a huge shock not only to the film industry but also to his fans. Fans and film industry stars are also paying tribute to Mehar. Prime Minister Modi has also expressed grief over the demise of veteran actor Sadhu Mehar by sharing a post on social media.

The news of Sadhu Mehar’s demise has shocked everyone. Mehar, a native of Manamunda in Boudh district of Odisha, started his career in 1969 with Hindi films like ‘Bhuvan Shome’, ‘Ankur’ and ‘Mrigaya’ before working in Oriya cinema. Five years later, in 1974, the actor was honored for his lead role in Shyam Benegal’s Hindi film ‘Ankur’. Meher was also known for her roles in other Hindi films such as ’27Down’ (1974), ‘Manthan’ (1976) and ‘Inkaar’ (1977).

Padmashree honored veteran actor Sadhu Mehar

Sadhu Mehar became the first person from Odisha to win the National Award for Best Actor. He received the National Film Award for Best Actor for ‘Ankur’. He was also awarded the Padma Shri in 2017 for his lifetime contribution to the field of entertainment. He was awarded the Jaidev Samman by the Government of Odisha in 2011. Mehar also acted in several Bengali films, including those directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Sandeep Ray and Utpalendu Chakraborty. In 1989, Mehar’s character in Sabyasachi Mahapatra’s Sambalpuri language film ‘Bhukha’ was highly appreciated.

Mehar acted in several episodes of Doordarshan’s popular detective series ‘Byomkesh Bakshy’. He has also worked in the Anil Kapoor and Kajol starrer Bollywood film ‘Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rahte Hain’ (1999). Popular Oriya films under his direction include ‘Abhimaan’, ‘Aparichita’, ‘Desire’ and ‘Abhilasha’, he starred in the critically acclaimed film ‘Bhukha’. His directorial abilities shine in ‘Gopa Re Badhuchi Kala Kanhei’, showcasing his versatility as a filmmaker.
