If we talk about the best and biggest superstar heroines of Bollywood history, Meena Kumari’s name will come first. Born on 1 August 1932 in Mumbai, Mehjabeen Bano’s mother Prabhavati Devi (Iqbal Begum) was a dancer in Parsi theatre. Prabhavati married a man named Ali Baksh and became Iqbal Begum. Meena Kumari started dancing and acting from her childhood along with her mother. She also started working as a child artist in films from her childhood. In the year 1939, as a child artist, Meena Kumari saw the camera for the first time. After this, she did about half a dozen films and in 1946, she did her first film as a heroine, ‘Bachchon Ka Khel’. After this film, this series of acting started and she kept on achieving success. Despite money, respect and immense fame in life, she yearned for love throughout her life. At the age of just 18, she married Kamal Amrohi, a father of 3 children and 16 years older than her. There was a lot of love between the two and their love story lasted for a long time. But in the end Meena Kumari’s heart was broken and this love became the reason for her destruction.

Her love with Kamal Amrohi blossomed and both of them worked together. Meena Kumari reached the heights of fame in no time. Meena Kumari’s beauty and strong acting made everyone crazy. Big superstars would forget their dialogues on seeing her and crowds of people would flock to cinema halls to see Meena Kumari. She displayed her acting skills in immortal films like ‘Kajal’ (1965), ‘Parineeta’ (1953), ‘Pakeezah’ (1972) and ‘Baiju Bawra’ (1952). But this love affair with Kamal Amrohi became a victim of jealousy. Kamal Amrohi started complaining about Meena Kumari’s fame and her mingling with other people. This complaint turned into quarrels and disputes started between the two. Both of them got divorced and Meena Kumari went into depression. After this, the doctor advised her to take brandy for sleep. But brandy pushed her into alcohol addiction and she died due to this addiction on 31 March 1972 at the age of just 39. Even at this young age, Meena Kumari has worked in 105 films. Now the love story of Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi ‘Kamal Aur Meena’ is being made. It is being told that AR Rahman will give music in the film and Irshad Kamil will write the songs.
