Doctors of Delhi AIIMS have once again created history. Actually, a 52 year old woman was recently admitted there. Whose both kidneys were damaged. Who needed kidney transplant immediately. In such a situation, the doctor has transplanted both the kidneys of a 78-year-old brain dead woman into a 52-year-old woman.
Surgical discipline department and Nephrology department performed double kidney transplant with the help of ORBO. According to Dr. Asuri Krishna, Professor of Surgery Department of AIIMS, this operation was full of difficulties. A team of many doctors were working together in this. The best thing was that the surgery was successful.
What did AIIMS doctors say about the donor?
AIIMS doctors told in their interview that a 78 year old brain dead woman had fallen from the stairs. Due to which he suffered serious head injury. On 19 September 2023, he was admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre. He could not be saved and was finally declared brain dead. After this, the family of the elderly woman was informed about organ donation. When the family members agreed. So the challenge before the doctors was how to make this entire surgery possible. The woman was quite old, so one kidney was not enough for the woman undergoing dialysis.
Kidney transplant surgery was successful
The patient in whom both the kidneys were transplanted together. He is absolutely fine now. The woman was earlier on dialysis. But now his condition is much better than before. Describing this surgery, AIIMS doctor Asuri Krishna says that this is the only surgery of its kind. The kidney of one brain dead person is usually used by two patients. But due to the woman’s advanced age, both her kidneys were used. Because with old age the kidneys also do not function properly. In India, organs of elderly patients are not taken. But in this case it had to be taken.
