Surrogacy: Becoming a mother is the most special thing for a woman. Every woman wants to become a mother, but sometimes some women have to face many problems during pregnancy. ICMR report shows that at present childlessness or infertility is one of the common health problems. Government figures show that 10-15 percent of couples in the country are victims of infertility. In such a situation, ordinary people resort to surrogacy and IVF to become mothers. In such a situation, let us know what is surrogacy, how many types of children are born in it and how is it different from IVF treatment…

what is surrogacy

If understood in very simple words, surrogacy is raising your child in the womb of a woman other than your wife. Couples who want to become parents but cannot have children due to some reason take the help of surrogacy. There are mainly two types of surrogacy. Traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy. They also have some legal rules.

1. Traditional Surrogacy

In traditional surrogacy, the sperm of the donor or father is mixed with the egg of the surrogate mother. In this, the biological mother of the child is the surrogate mother, whose womb is taken on rent. However, after the birth of the child, its official parents are the couple who have adopted surrogacy.

2. Gestational Surrogacy

In this, the sperm and egg of the parents are mixed and placed in the womb of the surrogate mother. In this process, the surrogate mother only gives birth to the child, she is not genetically related to the child and the mother of the child is the woman doing the surrogacy.

How different is surrogacy from IVF?

According to experts, surrogacy and IVF are quite different from each other. In surrogacy, an embryo created artificially in a lab is transferred into the uterus of another woman, although both the sperm and eggs belong to the parents. Whereas in IVF, fertilization takes place in the lab. After this it is transferred to the mother’s womb.
