According to the report published in Dainik Jagran, 20 percent of diabetic patients are vulnerable to critical limb ischemia i.e. leg attack. This is such a dangerous disease that the patient has to get his body parts amputated. At the same time, if the infection spreads too much, then in that situation the patients may even have to lose their lives.
What is the reason behind this
According to research published in the New England Journal of Medicine, 43 percent of diabetic patients whose legs have to be amputated die within 5 years of the operation. It is often advised to a diabetic patient to take more care of his feet than his face. This is said because blood circulation does not occur properly in the veins of the legs, due to which the risk of infection increases.
Diabetes patients should get this test done every year
The risk of such diseases increases due to diabetes, high BP, high cholesterol and smoking, peripheral artery disease. There are no initial symptoms of this disease. Doctors say that one thing a diabetic patient should do every year is that they should get ultrasound Doppler of their feet done every year. So that it can be corrected in time.
In case of CLI, treatment should be done by a vascular surgeon or vascular specialist. This is a serious situation. In case of poor blood circulation, immediate treatment has to be done. CLI patients should get nerve treatment.
