Risk factors of diabetes

1. Weight gain

According to health experts, spoiled lifestyle and bad eating habits are the main causes of diabetes. Overweight or obesity also increases the risk of diabetes. Many studies have found that reducing weight can reduce the risks of diabetes. The risk of diabetes can be reduced by increasing physical activities regularly.

2. Being physically inactive

Being physically inactive is also a major cause of pre-diabetes and type-2 diabetes. Increasing physical fitness regularly helps in reducing insulin resistance. This means our body is able to use its own insulin more effectively. By exercising for 30 minutes at least 5 days a week, you can reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease. Research has found that sitting for a long time can increase the risk of diabetes.

3. Disordered eating habits

Diet plays the most important role in protecting from diabetes. Eating healthy food in right quantity is considered very good. People who consume excessive amounts of trans fat, cholesterol and sodium i.e. salt, red and processed meat, carbohydrates and sweet food and beverages may have a higher risk of diabetes. Health experts recommend consuming a diet rich in fruits and vegetables along with whole grains, poultry, fish, nuts and seeds.

4. Alcohol and smoking are your enemies

Alcohol and smoking are considered dangerous for liver and lungs. These are also the main causes of diabetes. Drinking too much alcohol can cause inflammation in the pancreas. Due to this, insulin production is also affected. Alcohol damages the liver. The liver itself is helpful in the production of insulin. Therefore alcohol and smoking should be avoided.
