52 arrested in Karnataka’s Mandya violence, violence broke out during Ganpati immersion – Hindustan News Hub

Communal violence in Mandya

52 people have been arrested after clashes between two communities during Ganesh Visarjan in Mandya, Karnataka. The families of the arrested people are protesting outside the police station. Women from both sides say that the police are torturing them. There are allegations that people sleeping at home were arrested by breaking their doors. In the violence that took place during the Ganesh Visarjan procession, both communities pelted stones at each other and threw crude bombs. The dispute between the two groups escalated so much that vehicles were set on fire and shops and other places were vandalized.

Regarding the case, SP Mallikarjuna Baladandi said, “The situation is completely under control now. Additional forces have been deployed. The entire area is under surveillance. So far, 52 people have been arrested. 7 cases have been registered. Parents of some people have come to the police station and complained that innocent people have been arrested. We are verifying. We have told how the entire incident happened. We are also investigating whether all this was pre-planned or not?”

Situation normal, shops open

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said that a 48-hour curfew was imposed in the area after the violence and now the situation is under control. According to officials, in view of the situation, an order has been implemented to ban the gathering of more than four people in the area till September 14. Mandya Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi said that we have arrested several people in connection with Wednesday’s incident. The situation has become normal now. People are doing their daily work. Shops are open. We have deployed additional forces of Karnataka State Reserve Police as well as other police officers in plain clothes.

Let us tell you that while a procession was being taken out for Ganesh immersion from Badrikoppalu village, an argument broke out between two groups and some miscreants pelted stones, which worsened the situation. After the clash between the two groups, some shops were vandalized and vehicles were set on fire. The police used mild force to disperse the crowd and control the situation. The group of youths taking out the procession protested near the police station and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the violence.
