90 lakh rupees were lost due to WhatsApp group, a small mistake caused a huge loss

Scams happening on WhatsApp are increasing rapidly. Every day there are reports of fraud happening with users through WhatsApp. The latest case is from Mumbai. Here cyber criminals cheated a user of Rs 90 lakh by trapping him in the trap of a fake investment app. According to the report of Indian Express, the user who fell victim to this scam had joined a WhatsApp group of fake foreign experts. These fake experts used to give investment tips to the group members to earn more profit in less time.

Incentives for opening a trading account
The victim user was impressed by the name of this fake group and the information given in it and mistakenly got added to the group thinking it to be a golden opportunity. Shortly after joining the group, the fraudsters started instigating the user to open an ‘Institutional Trading Account’ and the user was also asked to download a mobile app from the Play Store. After downloading the app, the cyber criminals asked the user to deposit Rs 90 lakh in the company’s bank account.

Fraudsters demanded Rs 1.45 crore
To win the trust of the users, the fraudsters initially showed the user a profit of Rs 15.69 crore. The user got a big shock when he tried to withdraw his funds. The fraudsters blocked the user and started demanding 10 percent share in the profit i.e. about Rs 1.45 crore. By now the user had realized that a big fraud had happened with him, in which he had to lose Rs 90 lakh.

How to keep yourself safe from WhatsApp investment scam
1- Do not blindly trust the messages of investment schemes and offers received from unknown numbers. Genuine companies dealing in investment do not inform the users about the schemes by sending such fake messages.

2- Before starting any conversation related to investment, verify the identity of the person sending the message. For this, you can also see the blue checkmark on the account.

3- If you are being urged to invest quickly through messages or calls, be alert immediately. Also, even if someone guarantees you good returns, you should not believe him.
