Ashwin spoke openly about his retirement plan, said- I will retire when I feel I don’t want to improve

India’s star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has spoken openly about the future of his international career. Ashwin, an important member of the Indian Test team, has said that he will think about retirement only when he no longer has the desire to improve his game. Before the Test series against Bangladesh, Ashwin has said that he has not yet decided when he will retire.

“There is nothing like that in my mind. I am just thinking about one day right now. Because when you get older, you have to work harder every day. It is not the same as before. I have worked really hard in the last 3-4 years. I have not decided (retirement) yet, but the day I feel that I don’t want to improve, I will retire,” Ashwin said during a conversation with Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel.

Ashwin is ranked at the top of the ICC Test bowlers rankings and will play a key role in India’s upcoming five-Test home series, starting with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. This is followed by a three-match Test series against New Zealand. Ashwin is India’s second-highest wicket-taker with 516 wickets in 100 Tests. He is followed by legendary Anil Kumble, who has taken 619 wickets.

He said, “I have not set any target for myself. Anil bhai wants me to break his record, but I am happy living each day. I do not want to lose my love for the game by setting targets.”
