CBI questioned the doctors who conducted the post mortem, 5 will be questioned today as well; Big updates in the trainee doctor murder case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday questioned five people, including three forensic doctors, in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal. These doctors had conducted the post-mortem of the 31-year-old trainee doctor. Meanwhile, the police have arrested nine people in connection with the vandalism carried out by miscreants at the medical college late on Wednesday night.

According to CBI sources, former superintendent of RG Kar Hospital Sanjay Vashisht and Dr Arunava Dutta Chowdhury of the Chest Medicine Department appeared at the CBI office after receiving summons. Three forensic doctors who conducted the post-mortem, Reena Das, Mouli Banerjee and Apurba Biswas, were also summoned to the CGO Complex and questioned for over four hours, officials said.

The preliminary investigation was conducted by three other doctors – Ratna Debnath, Diyasini Roy and Antia Barman – in the presence of a magistrate. However, a senior doctor at the hospital said the post-mortem report was yet to be made public. It would be placed before the Calcutta High Court, which ordered a CBI probe midway through the police investigation. Sanjoy Roy (31), who worked for the Kolkata police, was arrested as the prime suspect on August 10.

Let us tell you, the CBI team from Delhi visited the spot on Wednesday afternoon and questioned several hospital staff. The investigators also collected duty rosters to determine who was on duty on August 9. According to sources, the crime branch team of the investigating agency also questioned Abhijit Mandal, the officer in charge of Tala police station, on Thursday morning. Mandal’s police station falls in the same area where the incident took place. CBI sources said that members of the SIT formed by the Kolkata Police to investigate the incident can also be questioned.

The team also reached the trainee doctor’s home
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials visited the house of the female trainee doctor on Thursday. As part of their investigation, CBI officials spoke to the parents of the woman doctor, they said. They said the investigating officers noted the timing of the call from the hospital informing them about their daughter’s death. The officials also asked them about their daughter’s friends and also tried to find out if the victim had complained of any trouble at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where she was a postgraduate trainee doctor.

Forensic team collected evidence
Kolkata Police Commissioner (CP) Vineet Goel said that nine people have been arrested in connection with the vandalism at the medical college campus. Goel said, a mobile forensic team of the police also reached the emergency ward of the hospital to collect evidence.

CBI called five doctors for questioning
In the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal, the CBI’s Special Crime Branch on Thursday summoned five doctors for questioning in connection with the case.
