Donald Trump wants to stop the hearing and sentencing of the case of secretly paying money to a porn star. The lawyers of the former US President have appealed to the court for this. According to this, it has been said to stop the proceedings in the criminal case related to the payment of money. Along with this, a request has also been made to postpone the sentencing process scheduled for next month indefinitely. Earlier, Trump had requested a federal court to intervene in this case so that his conviction could be overturned. After this, a way could be found to postpone the sentencing scheduled for next month indefinitely.
Trump’s lawyers urged Judge Juan M. Marchan, who is hearing the case, to indefinitely postpone Trump’s sentencing date set for September 18. While the US District Court in Manhattan considered his request late Thursday night to transfer the case from the state court to itself. The former president’s lawyers had requested the US District Court in Manhattan to take control of this criminal case in New York City, arguing that the state-level prosecution violated Trump’s constitutional rights and the US Supreme Court’s recent decision on the President’s immunity from lawsuits.
A Manhattan court found Trump guilty in May on 34 counts of falsifying records in connection with hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election. A federal judge last year rejected Trump’s attempt to move the case to federal court, paving the way for a historic prosecution against Trump in state court. Trump’s lawyers had said they would seek to overturn the decision and dismiss the case if the case were moved to federal court.
Meanwhile, Trump’s lawyers are also planning to urge the judge to dismiss the case of tampering in the federal election in view of the Supreme Court’s order to limit the scope of the indictment against the former president. The US federal government on Friday filed a fresh indictment against former President Donald Trump and limited the charges against him in connection with the riots in the US Parliament complex ‘Capitol Hill’ after the 2020 presidential election.
