IMD Alert: These states will have very heavy rains for the next four days, know the reason – Hindustan News Hub

Heavy rain alert issued

A depression over west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal is set to intensify into a deep depression, triggering heavy rain warnings in several states, including Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The depression, moving at a speed of 17 kmph, lay centred over West Bengal at 11:30 am, then about 270 km east of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 210 km east-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha), 230 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha) and 370 km south of Digha, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The system is expected to move northwards towards north Odisha-West Bengal coasts and intensify into a deep depression within 24 hours. It is forecast to cross Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Digha by noon on September 9. The system is expected to move further across Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh during the next two days. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall, with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places and extremely heavy falls at isolated places on September 8-9.

In Odisha, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted, with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on September 9. The state is expected to continue receiving heavy rainfall till September 11. The weather office has issued a red alert in five districts of the state which is already witnessing rain in many parts. Similarly, Chhattisgarh is likely to receive heavy rain in the southern region today, which will reach the northern parts on September 9-10.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely over many areas of Telangana with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on September 8-9. Gangetic West Bengal will receive light to moderate rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on September 9-10, which will continue till September 12.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over southern parts of Jharkhand till September 10-11, with heavy rainfall at isolated places on September 9 and 12. Vidarbha is also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on September 9.
