In Belagavi, Karnataka, police have arrested a woman who, along with her two associates, had murdered her husband. Police arrested Uma Padmannavar on the complaint of her daughter Sanjana. Sanjana suspected that her father Santosh Padmannavar had been murdered. The accused mother Uma had told her daughter that he had died due to a heart attack. Meanwhile, on the complaint of the daughter, Malmaruti police registered a case and the body was taken out again and post mortem was done.

While the police were waiting for the forensic report, during the interrogation of Uma it was revealed that she along with her two associates Shobhit Gowda and Pawan had committed this murder. The police suspect that Uma and Shobhit had an illicit relationship, which could be the reason behind the crime. Police arrested Shobhit and Pawan from Mangaluru, where they had fled after the murder.

This is how the crime was committed

Uma gave sleeping pills to her husband on the night of 9 October. Then, the three accused killed him by strangulating him with a pillow. The woman told that her husband died of a heart attack. He was buried the next day. Santosh Padmannavar, 47, was into money lending and real estate business. Sanjana, who was studying in Bengaluru, received the news that her father died of a heart attack on October 9. By the time she reached Belagavi from Bengaluru, her father’s body had been buried as per Lingayat tradition. As per his wish, the eyes were also donated. Sanjana could not believe that her healthy father could die of a heart attack.

Daughter became suspicious due to mother’s evasive answers

When Sanjana tried to view footage from multiple CCTV cameras in the house, she found that they had all been deleted. When she asked her mother, accused Uma gave vague answers which increased Sanjana’s suspicion and she lodged a complaint with the police.

During the investigation, when the police scanned the CCTV footage installed outside the neighbors’ houses, there was a stir. In the CCTV footage, two people were seen entering his house, on the basis of which the police took the investigation forward and the whole story of the murder came to light. All the arrested accused have been sent to judicial custody on Thursday evening.
