Hindi was given the status of official language on 14 September 1949, hence this day is celebrated as Hindi Diwas. The Constituent Assembly accepted Hindi with Devanagari script as well as English as official languages. On this day in the year 1949, the Constituent Assembly declared Hindi as the official language of India. However, the first Hindi Diwas was celebrated on 14 September 1953.

There was a long discussion in the Constituent Assembly

Most people consider Hindi as the national language, but Hindi is not the national language. There have been many controversies regarding this between the states with various regional languages ​​and the Hindi speaking states. Actually, no language has been given national status in the Indian Constitution. After independence, when the process of making the Constitution of India was going on, the subject of language was discussed in the Constituent Assembly. In the discussion in the Constituent Assembly, some people were in favor of making Hindi the national language, while some people also stood against it. Actually, those who were against making Hindi the national language believed that most of the people are not Hindi speaking.

Hindi became the official language on 14 September 1949

After a long discussion in the Constituent Assembly, it was agreed that Hindi would be made the official language. After this, in Article 343 (1) of the Constitution, Hindi was given the status of official language in the form of Devanagari script. On 14 September 1949, the Constituent Assembly gave the status of official language to Hindi. If you also do not know the difference between official language and national language, then let us tell you that the national language is the one that is used for political, cultural and social functions. At the same time, the official language is the one that is used for government work. This includes the National Court, Parliament or for business purposes etc.
