Former Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey made a big statement on Sunday about the violence-affected state. She said that the people of the state are sad that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not yet visited there. In an exclusive conversation with Hindustan Times, Uikey said, ‘Given the situation at that time, it is possible that PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah may have taken some decision. But, I am not aware of it. The people of Manipur like PM Modi. People respect him because of the kind of development work that has been done there. At present, they are sad to say that the Prime Minister should visit Manipur.’
Anusuiya Uikey was asked whether PM Modi has disappointed the people of Manipur? To this, she said that it is not so. The former governor said, ‘No, I don’t think so. It is remembered that at that time PM Modi was in France. After returning to India, he called a cabinet meeting on this matter. The issue was discussed in it. The central government kept a constant eye on the situation in Manipur.’ She said that the Home Minister remained in control of the situation, which also kept changing continuously. You see that the situation gradually became peaceful. PM Modi had also expressed concern over the incidents in Manipur. It is known that since May last year, more than 200 people have been killed and thousands of people have become homeless in the conflict between Meitei and Kuki.
‘Situation in Manipur is largely under control’
The former governor said that the situation in Manipur has been brought under control to a large extent. He said that I have met many people from both the communities in the relief camps. Meanwhile, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has expressed concern over the new incidents of violence in Manipur. He appealed to the Center on Sunday to take steps to protect the territorial integrity of the state. An official gave this information. He said that Singh also urged the central government not to bow down to the demand for a separate administration raised by the Kuki-Jo groups. The CM met the Governor at Raj Bhavan along with several MLAs and the Speaker of the Assembly and held a meeting. He made this appeal in a memorandum submitted to Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya.
