After his visit to Poland, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Ukraine today. Meanwhile, the PM will also meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The ongoing war with Russia is expected to be discussed in this meeting. This visit is taking place about six weeks after his high-profile visit to Russia. In the second and final leg of his two-nation visit, the Prime Minister reached Kiev from Poland by ‘Rail Force One’ train, which took about 10 hours. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor are also present with him. It is worth noting that this is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since the country’s independence in 1991.
Modi arrived by special train
Due to the closure of traffic at many airports in war-torn Ukraine, PM Modi reached Kiev from Poland by a special luxury train. Earlier, heads of many countries of the world have also traveled by this train. This list also includes the names of US President Joe Biden, former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Melani. This diesel-powered train was built in 2014 for tourists coming from Crimea. However, after the war with Russia started, it started being used to transport special people from one place to another safely.
The solution to the war will be discussed with Zelensky
Modi will hold one-on-one talks with Zelensky in which he is expected to focus on ways to find a negotiated solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Earlier, before leaving Delhi, Modi had said, “I look forward to the opportunity to build on my earlier discussions with President Zelensky to strengthen bilateral cooperation and share my views on a peaceful resolution of the ongoing Ukraine conflict.”
Poland’s PM has expectations from India
India has so far maintained a balanced stance in the Russia-Ukraine war. India has repeatedly stressed that the war should be resolved through dialogue. Meanwhile, Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said during PM Modi’s visit that India can play an important role in establishing peace in the Russia-Ukraine war.
