Security forces on Tuesday busted an underground terrorist hideout in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri, officials said. According to officials, the hideout was discovered during a cordon and search operation by a joint team of police, army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Sagarwat forest in Darhal area of the border district. Security forces said a large quantity of items of daily use, including cooking gas, blankets and utensils, were recovered from the underground hideout of the terrorists.
Apart from this, the security forces also unearthed a cave-like hideout in Balotha area of Basantgarh in Udhampur district during the anti-terror operation. Officials said that no one was arrested during the search operation as the terrorists using the hideout managed to escape before the search operation began. Some food items have been recovered from the abandoned hideout, officials said. The search operation was intensified in Basantgarh on Monday after militants opened fire on a joint patrol party of CRPF and police, killing an inspector-rank officer of the paramilitary force.
The terrorist hideout has been busted at a time when an inspector rank officer of the paramilitary force was killed in an encounter here. This recent death has taken the total number of terrorism-related deaths in Jammu and Kashmir this year to 74. This includes 21 security personnel and 35 terrorists. Of these, 30 deaths occurred in six districts of Jammu region – Doda, Kathua, Reasi, Poonch and Rajouri, including 14 security personnel and six terrorists.
