The district unit of STF has arrested 3 members of a gang involved in smuggling of rare species of turtles in Nawabganj police station area and recovered 741 turtles from them.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (STF) Navendu Kumar has said that on the information of the informer, the team of STF and Nawabganj police station laid siege on Nawabganj toll plaza on Friday night and arrested three members of the gang involved in smuggling turtles. The arrested people have been identified as Shani, Suraj, residents of Amethi district, and Adarsh ​​Singh, resident of Rae Bareli district.
741 turtles found
741 turtles of rare species have been recovered from smugglers. He told that during interrogation it was found that by drying the meat and membrane of these turtles, potency enhancing medicine is made. The turtles were hidden in 27 sacks among paddy and chaff. During interrogation, these smugglers told that they had obtained these turtles from Salman, Akbar and Phool Mohammad in Jagdishpur, Amethi and they were going to West Bengal, where they would contact local smugglers and sell them at high prices.
