Nazmul Hasan Shanto recently captained New Zealand in Test and ODI. Apart from this, he was the captain of Bangladesh team in the last match of ODI World Cup 2023. According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, Shakib Al Hasan’s name was considered for ODI captaincy, but the board put forward Shanto’s name for this role. Shakib Al Hasan has an eye problem. He has already told the board about this. For this reason Shakib will be out of the upcoming Sri Lanka series.
Has captained in so many matches till now
Nazmul Hasan has captained Bangladesh in 11 international matches so far, which includes 2 Tests, 6 ODI matches and three T20 matches. Shakib had announced last year before the World Cup that he would step down from ODI captaincy after the marquee 50-over event. He had also indicated that he was unlikely to continue in the Tests but had expressed his interest in leading the team during the T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh has not won the World Cup title
BCB also announced Ghazi Ashraf Hussain as the new chief selector of the senior men’s team. This means that after eight years, Minhajul Abedin’s time as chief selector has come to an end. Bangladesh team has not won the title of ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup even once.
