Cricket is the biggest sport in India. Indian cricket has progressed so much in the last few years that there is no answer. Indian players have had to cross many levels to get into Team India. Men’s cricket in India has achieved a lot, but when it comes to women’s cricket, we seem to be a little behind. The Indian women’s cricket team has not won any ICC title till date. This is the reason why BCCI is doing a lot regarding women’s cricket. In this series, BCCI has decided to organize a new tournament. Due to which, it will help even more in expanding women’s cricket in India.

Tournament Schedule

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to organize a multi-day women’s tournament in Pune from March 29. Some six teams will participate in this mega tournament. These teams are divided on the basis of regions. Teams from East, West, North, South, Central and Northeast will participate in it. These teams will participate in a five-match series. The tournament is scheduled to begin on March 29 and will begin with the quarter-finals. The quarter matches will be held on 29, 30 and 31 March.

The winners of the quarters will then advance to the semi-finals. Both the semi-finals will be played simultaneously and will run from 5 to 7 April. The final will be played on 9, 10 and 11 April. This tournament has been designed keeping the Women’s Premier League in mind. The final match of the WPL 2024 tournament will be held on March 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Therefore, there is an 11-day break between both the tournaments to ensure that Indian players (both domestic and centrally contracted) get time to rest and prepare for red-ball cricket.

Amazing performance of women’s cricket in red ball

The Indian women’s team has played a few red-ball international matches recently and it is clear that the BCCI wants to provide a home platform for multi-day matches for women cricketers. The women’s team has also impressed everyone with its performance in the test matches played during this period. Team India has recently defeated big teams like England and Australia in test matches.
