SL vs AFG: A three-match T20 series was played between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. The Sri Lankan team had to face defeat in the third match of this series. Although Sri Lanka won the series 2-1 due to the victory in the first two matches of the series, but after the end of the series, the Sri Lankan captain looked very angry. Sri Lanka’s new T20 captain Wanindu Hasaranga was left fuming when umpire Lyndon Hannibal did not give a no ball in the last over against Afghanistan and his team looked to register a clean sweep against the visiting team at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Wednesday. Missed the opportunity.

What was the whole matter?

Sri Lanka needed 19 runs to win in the last over, the hosts were chasing 210 runs and their hopes increased further in the last over when Kamindu Mendis hit two fours in the first three balls to bring his team back into the match. Gave hope for. However, the game turned on the fourth ball of the over, when a high full toss that went above Mendis’s waist height was declared a legal ball by Hannibal. Mendis asked for a review on this ball but as per some new changes in the ICC rules, he did not get the review.

Although Mendis was outside his crease when the ball passed him, he was slightly crouched and if he had played from the crease, the ball would have passed above his waist anyway. Loyal Momand hit the next shot short and it was declared wide. Sri Lanka needed 10 runs from the last two but a dot on the final delivery turned the game in Afghanistan’s favour. Hasaranga was angry with Hannibal’s decision not to call it a no-ball and made several big statements after the game.

Hasranga’s big statement regarding umpire

After the end of the third T20 match against Afghanistan, Hasaranga said that this kind of thing should not happen in an international match. If it was closer to waist height, there would be no problem. But a ball that is going so high, if you can’t see it, then he is not fit to umpire international cricket. It would be better if he did something else. Although Hasaranga did not name Hannibal, he criticized him for non-no-ball calls and urged the ICC to make changes to the playing conditions.

Hasaranga further said in his statement that there was a situation where you could review those calls earlier, but ICC has got rid of it. Our batsmen tried to review it. If the third umpire is able to check a front-foot no-ball, he must also check such a no-ball. There’s no reason why they can’t do that. He didn’t even do that, so I’m not sure what was going through his square-leg umpire’s mind at that time.
