The first match of the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played on March 22 between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the upcoming season, some big changes will also be seen in all the 10 teams, in which star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who has been captaining the Gujarat Titans team for the last 2 seasons, will take over the responsibility of captaining Mumbai Indians. Rishabh Pant will also be seen returning this season. However, meanwhile, former Indian player Parthiv Patel has given a big statement regarding Hardik Pandya, in which according to him, Hardik will have to face a lot of pressure in the responsibility of captaining Mumbai Indians.
There will be a lot of pressure on Hardik
Parthiv Patel, in response to a question on Jio Cinema about Hardik Pandya playing as the captain of the Mumbai Indians team in the upcoming season, said that definitely Pandya’s captaincy is a topic of discussion. The way he captained the Gujarat Titans team, he won the title in the very first year and then reached the finals in the next season too, even though he could not succeed in winning the title. Hardik Pandya is now back in the Mumbai Indians team where his cricket career, in a way, started. The Mumbai team will have a lot of expectations from them as all eyes will be on the title and for them qualifying is not just success, they need the title. Mumbai Indians must have thought the same and bringing him into the team seems like a very conscious decision which has been taken keeping the future in mind. In such a situation, there will be a lot of pressure on Hardik. Mumbai Indians have been playing under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma for the last several seasons, so it will not be an easy task at all for Hardik to take the team forward in the same manner. This change is going to be very challenging for Hardik.
Mumbai will play 4 matches in the first phase
In the schedule released for the first phase for the IPL 2024 season, Mumbai Indians team will play 4 matches. In this, it will play its first match on March 24 against Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad ground. After this, the second match will be played against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 27th March while Mumbai Indians will play against Rajasthan Royals on 1st April and Delhi Capitals on 7th April.
