Just a day before the start of IPL 2024, MS Dhoni stepped down from the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings and the reins of the team were handed over to young Ruturaj Gaikwad. With MS Dhoni leaving the captaincy, a golden period for Chennai Super Kings also came to an end. Where he won five IPL trophies. Meanwhile, after becoming the captain of the team, Ruturaj Gaikwad has given his first reaction and said that there is nothing to worry about. Defending champions CSK will begin IPL 2024 by taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Friday, March 22.

Speaking in a video released by CSK on his X handle, Gaikwad said that he is not worried about his new role and is looking forward to enjoying his time as CSK captain. Gaikwad has been one of the most prolific batsmen for CSK in the last few IPL seasons, scoring 635 runs in 2021, 368 runs in 2022 and 590 runs last season. During this time, he also won the Orange Cap in the year 2021.

What did Gaikwad say?

Gaikwad said that it looks good. Obviously it’s a privilege. I feel more than that. It’s a big responsibility but I’m really excited about the kind of team we have. Everyone is quite experienced, so there is not much for me to do. Apart from this, I also have Mahi (Dhoni) bhai in my team, Jaddu (Jadeja) bhai, Ajju (Rahane) bhai also, who have been great captains to guide me. No worries, just hope you enjoy it.

Gaikwad’s appointment as the new captain of CSK was confirmed by the IPL and CSK after the official captains’ photoshoot ahead of the inaugural IPL 2024. Last season, amid speculations of his retirement, Dhoni had announced that he would continue playing for one more season after winning the title in Ahmedabad.
