Chandika Hathurusingha
Amidst the 10th season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Bangladesh team head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has expressed his anger regarding this T20 league. The current season of BPL started on January 19, while its final match will be played on March 1. Chandika Hathurusingha criticized BPL and described it like a circus. He has also appealed to ICC along with Bangladesh Cricket Board to close this league. In which according to him ICC should bring some such rules so that the player included in the contract is playing in many more T20 leagues at the same time.
We don’t have a proper T20 tournament yet
Chandika Hathurusingha said in his statement to ESPN Cricinfo on Bangladesh Premier League that we do not have a consistent T20 tournament yet. This may sound quite strange, when I am watching the BPL match, I feel like switching off the TV. A player is playing one tournament and then he is playing another tournament. This is no less than a circus. ICC will have to make some rules regarding this. This may be right from the players’ point of view, but being a spectator, it is not right at all. We need a tournament in which our players get a chance to play in the top-3, while the bowlers get to bowl more in the last overs.
There should be a separate tournament for local players
In his statement, Chandika Hathurusingha also advised Bangladesh Cricket Board that they should organize a tournament with local players just before organizing BPL so that they can get the experience of T20 cricket. The franchisees involved in BPL take only those decisions which they feel are right. Some of the best players are not playing in this league. After this, how can you expect that Bangladesh team will be able to reach at par with other teams in world cricket? Bangladesh players should have a role in BPL so that they can play accordingly.
