West Indies Player Ban: ICC has taken a big decision and banned former West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels for 6 years. He took retirement from international cricket in the year 2020 itself. He has been banned from all forms of cricket after being found guilty of violating the anti-corruption code of the Emirates Cricket Board. This is no less than a shock for them. He plays in cricket leagues around the world. Now he will not be able to play in any league for the next 6 years.
Ban imposed due to this reason
Marlon Samuels was charged by the ICC with a total of four charges of corruption under the ECB Code in September 2021 and then found guilty of the offenses in August this year. Now there is a ban on them, which will start from 11 November 2023. This is not the first time that Marlon Samuels is embroiled in such controversy. In May 2008 he was banned for two years after being found guilty of receiving money, benefits or other rewards which could bring him or the game of cricket into disrepute.
Alex Marshall, head of the ICC HR and Integrity Unit, said that Samuels played international cricket for almost two decades, during which he attended many anti-corruption sessions and knew what his responsibilities were under anti-corruption. He is now retired, but Samuels was an accomplice when the crimes were committed. The six-year ban will serve as an example for any participant who intends to break the rules.
West Indies won many matches
Marlon Samuels made his ODI debut for West Indies in the year 2000 and played his last ODI match in the year 2018. In his 18-year international career, he made West Indies win many matches. He scored 3917 runs in 71 Test matches, 5606 runs in 207 ODI matches and 1611 runs in 67 T20 matches for West Indies. He has 17 centuries to his name in all three formats.
Marlon Samuels has performed brilliantly for West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2012 and 2016. He has been the best scorer for West Indies in the finals of both seasons. He scored 78 runs in the 2012 final and 85 runs in the 2016 final. It is because of him that the West Indies team was successful in winning the T20 World Cup trophy twice.
