ICC ODI Rankings: The ICC ratings of Team India captain Rohit Sharma, former captain Virat Kohli and opener Shubman Gill have fallen again. However, even after this decline, there has been no impact on their ranking. But the question is that when these three players are not playing ODIs then what is the reason why their ratings are continuously falling. Let us try to understand.

Babar Azam number one in ICC’s latest ODI rankings, Shubman Gill at second place

New ODI rankings have been released by ICC. In this, former Pakistan captain Babar Azam remains on top. Whereas Shubhman Gill, who was the number one batsman till just a few days ago, is in second place. While on one hand Babar Azam’s rating is same as last week, on the other hand Shubman’s rating has decreased. Whereas everyone knows that neither Babar Azam nor Shubman Gill has played any ODI after the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Not only this, the ratings of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have also fallen.

Because of this the ratings of three batsmen of Team India fell

Actually, Team India has played three ODI matches after the ICC World Cup 2023 and Pakistan has not played any ODI match. According to the ICC’s rating rules, if a team plays a match but a player does not play, then the player’s rating is reduced. Whereas if both the team and the player do not play then there is no change in it.

Ratings of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma fell.

This is the reason why Babar Azam’s rating which was earlier 824, is still the same. Whereas Shubman Gill’s rating which was 810 last week, has now come down to 801. After this, if we talk about Virat Kohli, his rating earlier was 775, which has now come down to 768. Rohit Sharma’s rating was 754 last week, that has also reduced to 746. But even after this, these three players remain at second, third and fourth position.

Team India will not play ODI match for about six months now

The good thing is that now the Indian team will not play any ODI match till the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This will mean that there will be no impact on the ratings of these three. Players who are below these three will be able to move ahead only if they play and perform well. However, below Rohit Sharma sitting at number four is David Warner, whose rating is currently 745. He will also not be seen playing ODI. Babar Azam will now play ODIs directly in November next year. Therefore, there does not seem to be much scope for change in the top 5 in the coming few months. Therefore, right now the focus should be on T20 and Test ratings.
