Indian captain Rohit Sharma registered his name in the record books during the third T20 match against Afghanistan at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He has become the highest run-scorer for India as a captain in T20I cricket, surpassing Virat Kohli. Captaining the Indian team for the 54th time in this format, Rohit achieved this feat with his 44th run in the match.
Left behind Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli captained India in 50 T20Is. During this period, he scored 1,570 runs at an average of 47.57. This includes 13 half-centuries. But now Rohit Sharma has crossed this figure of Virat. Rohit is now behind only Aaron Finch, Babar Azam and Kane Williamson in terms of T20I runs as captain.
Only the second Indian captain to do so
Rohit, Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni are the only three Indian players to score more than 1,000 T20I runs as captain. While both Rohit and Kohli have more than 1,500 runs to their name, Dhoni had scored 1,112 runs as captain.
