Ravichandran Ashwin, while talking to ESPN Cricinfo a day before his 100th Test match, explained the reason for returning home in the middle of the Rajkot Test match, when I got the news of my mother being admitted to the ICU and I reached the hospital to see her. So the first thing my mother said to me after regaining consciousness was why did you come here. After that, after regaining consciousness the next time he directly told me that I think you should go back because the test match is going on.
My father still watches the match as if it is my first match
Ashwin further said in his statement about his family that I am now 35 years old but even today when I come on the field to play a match, my father watches the match as if this is my first international match. If I’m honest, my matches mean more to me than me. My parents contributed a lot in making me a cricketer in which they took care of everything from my studies so that I could give more time to cricket. Let us tell you that Ashwin is only the second spin bowler from India to take 500 plus wickets in Test cricket. Before him, this feat was done by former captain Anil Kumble.
