After almost 6 years, playing on the same ground, Bumrah became the hero of Team India’s victory. He has also become the bowler taking the highest number of wickets for India on this ground.
Bumrah’s old connection with Newlands Stadium
Jasprit Bumrah is very emotional about this venue and the icing on the cake was that he was also named Player of the Series after registering a series-levelling win over South Africa. In this match, Bumrah took six wickets in the second innings, due to which India defeated Africa by seven wickets in the shortest match in Test history which lasted 642 balls. After the Cape Town Test, Bumrah said that this ground will always have a special place in my heart. The journey started here in 2018, always had pleasant memories. So glad everything went well today.

Bumrah said that our bowling unit was experienced and we wanted to make an impact. I didn’t expect the game to progress so fast. Let us tell you that 23 wickets fell on the first day of the match and India got a modest target of 79 runs to level the two-match series. India achieved the target in 12 overs in the second session on the second day, making this Test the shortest in history. On Africa’s decision to bat first after winning the toss, Bumrah said that we also wanted to bat first. Test cricket surprises you. Great series.
Praised the Indian bowling unit
Apart from Bumrah, India’s fast bowling attack in the absence of injured Mohammed Shami included players like Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj. Bumrah said that our team is going through a phase of change but the message is the same – keep fighting. A lot of bowlers have changed but the message in the team is to keep fighting.
