IND-W vs ENG-W: The only test match was played between the Indian women’s cricket team and the England women’s team. On the third day of the game, Team India defeated the England team by 347 runs. Deepti Sharma had an important contribution in India’s victory. He performed all-round for Team India and led India to this historic victory. Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, India achieved a historic feat and won the magnificent trophy at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy on Saturday, 16 December. The comprehensive win over the Heather Knight-led side is India’s first Test win against England on home soil.

Team India’s first win

England had previously participated in five Test matches on Indian soil in three different tours (1995/96, 2001/02 and 2005/06). The visiting team won the three-match Test series 1–0 during the 1995/96 tour and the other two series ended in draws. Talking about the match, India declared its innings in its second innings by scoring 186 runs at the loss of six wickets and set a huge score of 479 runs for England to chase the target.

While chasing this target, England’s batting order collapsed like a house of cards and they were bundled out for just 131 runs. Deepti Sharma, who was India’s star with the ball in the first innings, weaved another fine net to trouble the English batsmen in the second innings and claimed 32 runs.

Miracle of Deepti Sharma

Deepti finished the match with match-winning figures of 9 wickets for 38 runs and contributed to India’s mammoth score of 428 by scoring 67 runs in the first innings. He was also chosen Player of the Match. Apart from Deepti, Pooja Vastrakar and Rajeshwari Gaikwad also impressed with their bowling in the second innings. In this match, the England team performed very poorly and the team could not make any comeback in the entire match. Nat Sciver-Brunt scored England’s only half-century in the game while Charlie Dean took four wickets in India’s second innings and kept their run rate in check. Winning this match is going to boost India’s morale a lot as they are preparing to play another Test against Australia on home soil from December 21 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
