Indian player has a chance to create history in the final of ICC U19 WC, only so many wickets have to be taken – India TV Hindi

In the first semi-final match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024, the Indian team has confirmed its place in the final by defeating South Africa by 2 wickets in a thrilling manner. So far in this tournament, Team India has seen a one-sided game under the captaincy of Uday Saharan, in which they have won all the matches. The biggest reason for this is that along with the batsmen, the bowlers also performed better than expected. One name included in this is Soumya Pandey, who till now holds the second position in terms of taking the most wickets in this tournament. South Africa’s Quen Mafaka, who stood first, has taken 21 wickets in 6 matches, however, his team’s journey ended with the loss against India.

Soumya Pandey, part of the Indian Under-19 team, has so far taken 17 wickets in 6 matches at an average of 8.47 in this edition of the World Cup. He will need to take 6 more wickets to break the record of taking most wickets in a single edition of Under 19 World Cup. Soumya has taken 4-4 wickets in a match thrice so far. African player Kwan Mafaka missed breaking this record by just 2 wickets. Till now, the record for taking the most wickets in a single edition of the Under-19 World Cup is in the name of Bangladesh’s Enamul Haq Jr., who took 22 wickets in the 2014 edition. Mafaka has definitely made a record in the Under-19 World Cup, in which he has become the player who has taken the maximum number of 5 wicket hauls in a single edition. Mafaka has achieved this feat thrice in this World Cup, whereas before this only 4 players had managed to take 5 wicket hauls twice.

There could be a title match with Pakistan or Australia

While the Indian team has confirmed its place in the final of the Under-19 World Cup 2024, they may face either Australia or Pakistan in the final. The second semi-final match of the tournament between the two will be played on 8 February at Willsmore Park, Binoni. Both Australia and Pakistan have not lost a single match in this tournament so far.
