Pat Cummins and Ravichandran Ashwin
In the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Sunrisers Hyderabad team will take the field under the leadership of new captain Pat Cummins. Last season, the SRH team was captained by South African player Aiden Markram but the team’s performance was very poor under his leadership. Whereas Sunrisers Hyderabad had spent Rs 20 crore 50 lakh to make Pat Cummins a part of their team for the 17th season, after which it was considered almost certain that he would become the captain. On the other hand, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, part of the Rajasthan Royals team, has now expressed surprise over Cummins being made the captain, in which he has called it a shocking decision.
Makaram should have been retained as captain
Regarding this decision of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Ravichandran Ashwin said on his YouTube channel that Sunrisers won the title in South Africa T20 League for 2 consecutive seasons and that too under the captaincy of Aiden McCram, hence he should have retained the captain for this season of IPL. When they decided to make Pat Cummins the captain, it was really a shocking decision for me. McCram has captained well in SA20 due to which he was successful in winning the title twice for Sunrisers, hence this responsibility should not have been taken away from him.
Choosing playing 11 will not be easy for Sunrisers Hyderabad
Ashwin further said about the playing 11 of Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the upcoming season that the decision to select for the team management is not going to be easy. Pat Cummins will definitely be a part as captain, while three more foreign players should be played in Markram, Heinrich Klaasen and Wanindu Hasaranga. And Travis Head should keep him as a backup player. If he does not want to play Hasaranga in all the matches, then according to the circumstances, he can also include Fazhalaq Faruqui in the playing 11 of his team. Let us tell you that Sunrisers Hyderabad has to play its first match in the upcoming season against Kolkata Knight Riders on 23 March.
