MS Dhoni has played so many matches without captaincy till now, such is his record as captain

MS Dhoni CSK vs RCB IPL 2024 : The first match of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL 2024 will be played today. The match between RCB and CSK is to be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Just a day before the start of IPL, MS Dhoni left the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings and now Ruturaj Gaikwad will take charge of the team. That means Dhoni will be seen in today’s match, but as a player. It is not that Dhoni will be seen in this role for the first time. Even before this he had played as a player.

Dhoni is counted among the great captains of the world

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is considered the greatest captain not only of IPL but also of international cricket. Now he is about 42 years old, yet he still beats the younger players in fitness. MS Dhoni has played a total of 250 matches in IPL so far. Out of these, he has been seen captaining in 226 matches. But he has played 24 matches as a player. Although Dhoni has been the captain of Chennai Super Kings most of the time, but in between, when Chennai was out of IPL for two years, a new team came, its name was Rising Pune Supergiants. Dhoni was the captain of this team for one year, but in the second season he was seen playing as a player.

Dhoni played under the captaincy of Steve Smith in IPL for Rising Pune Supergiants.

CSK could not play the 2016 IPL. All the players of Chennai were in different teams. Rising Pune Supergiants was entered that year. MS Dhoni became the captain of this team, but the performance of the team was very poor. The team achieved seventh place that year. After this, when IPL happened again in 2017, Steve Smith was made the captain of this team and Dhoni was playing as a player in the team. This year the team’s performance was strong, it reached the finals, but in the title match, Mumbai Indians, captained by Rohit Sharma, defeated it in a close match.

Dhoni will play his 25th match in IPL as a player

Today, when MS Dhoni will again enter his home ground i.e. MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, he will not be the captain but only a player. It is another matter that Dhoni’s status will not diminish due to not being the captain. Today, this will be Dhoni’s 25th match in IPL history, when he will not be the captain. But if we talk about his statistics as captain, he has held this responsibility in 226 matches. Of these, 133 were won and 91 were defeated. There was no result in two matches. It also includes matches of Chennai Super Kings and Pune Rising Supergiants.

All eyes are going to be on Ruturaj’s captaincy

Meanwhile, apart from Dhoni, today all eyes will also be on Ruturaj Gaikwad to see how he captains. Although Gaikwad has captained the team before also, but for the first time in IPL, he will be seen commanding the team. It will be interesting to see what strategy they will adopt when they face the great and big captains. Also, when the team is stuck, what moves will they make, so that the team can register victory. However, it is also certain that Dhoni will be ready to help him all the time. Overall, today’s match is likely to be very interesting.
