Former Nepal cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane was convicted on rape charges by a court there, after which he was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment on January 10. Sandeep was accused of rape by a minor girl. Sandeep is counted among the most prominent players of Nepal cricket and also became the first player to play for his country in the Indian Premier League, in which he was a part of the Delhi Capitals team. After the court’s decision on Sandeep, now Nepal Cricket has also taken big action against him.
Nepal Cricket suspended Sandeep
After Sandeep Lamichhane was sentenced to 8 years in prison, Nepal Cricket has also decided to suspend him from any sports related activity. After the decision of Kathmandu District Court, Cricket Association Nepal issued its statement on this entire matter and said according to PTI that we want to inform you that Sandeep Lamichhane will not be allowed to participate in any kind of cricket event at domestic and international level. We have decided to suspend the activity.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh
Along with sentencing Sandeep, the Nepalese court has also imposed a fine of 3 lakh Nepalese rupees on rape charges. Out of this, Rs 2 lakh will be given as compensation to the victim in this case. Lamichhane’s lawyer, in his statement given in Kathmandu Post, said regarding this decision of the court that he will appeal against it in the apex court. A complaint was lodged against Sandeep in this matter in the month of September last year, after which he had to lose the captaincy of Nepal cricket team. Sandeep has taken 112 wickets in 51 ODI matches and 98 wickets in 52 T20 International matches.
