Pakistan cricket team and Shane Watson
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently looking for a new head of the Pakistan team, for which they have contacted former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson. After the shameful performance of the Pakistani team in the ODI World Cup 2023, the PCB had changed the entire coaching staff, in which they made Mohammad Hafeez the new director of the team and gave him the additional responsibility of head coach. However, Mohammad Hafeez resigned from his post after the defeat in the Test series against Australia and then the T20 series against New Zealand.
PCB wants to fill the position of head coach before the series against New Zealand
Before the T20 World Cup to be played in the month of June, the Pakistani team has to play a three-match T20 series against New Zealand at home and then on the tour of England. PCB wants to fill the position of head coach before this. Talking about Shane Watson, he is currently playing the role of head coach of Quetta Gladiators team in Pakistan Super League and his team has been successful in qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in 5 years. According to the news of ESPN Cricinfo, PCB is not considering Watson as the only option for the head position as nothing can be said about whether he will accept this offer or not. Apart from PSL, Watson Philhas is currently handling the responsibility of coach of San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket, apart from this he is also seen in the role of commentary in IPL and ICC events.
PCB is considering different options for head coach
PCB’s new chairman Mohsin Naqvi had said in his statement a few days ago regarding the appointment of the head coach that the board is currently considering different options and we will leave no stone unturned to appoint the best coach for the team. Apart from Watson, PCB is also in touch with former West Indies team captain Darren Sammy, who is currently playing the role of limited overs head coach for the West Indies team.
