Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has been appointed as the head coach of Quetta Gladiators for the upcoming season of Pakistan Super League. The franchise announced this on Wednesday. He will replace wicketkeeper batsman Moin Khan, who has held this responsibility for 8 years. He has been given the role of director in the team.
Team owner Nadeem Umar, in a statement shared on the team’s social media, said that Shane had been an integral part of the success of Quetta Gladiators in the inaugural season of the country’s Premier League before retiring and wanted to bring the team back to those glory days. Shane Watson has had an illustrious career as an all-rounder for Australia. He won the 2007 and 2015 World Cups with the Australian team. The 42-year-old retired from all forms of cricket in 2020. He joined IPL franchise Delhi Capitals in 2022 as an assistant coach alongside his former Australia teammate Ricky Ponting.
