Rashid Khan: IPL 2024 is about to start. Before the tournament, Gujarat Titans’ star bowler Rashid Khan is looking in great form and he has also returned after a long injury break. Rashid Khan captained the team in the T20 match played between Afghanistan and Ireland, where he performed brilliantly and also broke a 14-year-old record. Rashid Khan has registered his name in the record books by achieving the best bowling figures by an Afghanistan captain in T20 International cricket. This feat was earlier achieved by Nawaz Mangal 14 years ago during a T20 match between Afghanistan and Ireland.
How was Rashid Khan’s performance?
In the match played against Ireland, Rashid took 3 wickets for just 19 runs in four overs. Due to his brilliant bowling, the Afghanistan team troubled the Irish batsmen a lot. Rashid Khan led Afghanistan’s efforts to contain the opposition, with the dismissals of Paul Stirling, Curtis Campher and Gareth Delaney, restricting Ireland to a modest score of 149 for 6 from their 20 overs. Despite Rashid’s brilliant bowling, they suffered a 38-run defeat at the hands of a strong Irish team.
While Mohammad Ishaq played a strong inning of 32 runs off 22 balls, the Afghan batting lineup faltered against Ireland’s strong bowling attack, with Ben White being Ireland’s best bowler with four important wickets. Despite the contribution of experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, Afghanistan failed to overcome the constant pressure from Ireland and could not chase the target in the end. Apart from Rashid Khan, nothing has gone right for Afghanistan. Rashid Khan being in form is a good sign for Gujarat Titans. He has to play his first match in IPL 2024 against Mumbai Indians on 24 March.
