Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered a major blow on Saturday when their English player Heather Knight was ruled out of the upcoming second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), starting on February 23. RCB did not give any specific reason behind Knight’s exclusion. However, the England cricketers participating in the WPL are withdrawing their names from the tournament one by one, perhaps because immediately after the WPL, the England team has to play a five-match T20 series and a three-match ODI series against New Zealand. This series is to be organized in New Zealand. Knight is the captain of the England women’s team.

RCB announced replacement

The WPL final is scheduled for March 17, while England’s first T20 match against New Zealand is scheduled for March 19 in Dunedin. RCB has included South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk as Knight’s replacement. England captain Heather Knight has withdrawn her name from the upcoming season of the Women’s Premier League 2024, the WPL said in a statement. “Royal Challengers Bangalore have named Nadine de Klerk as her replacement.”

De Klerk, who bowls medium-fast and bats right-handed, has appeared in 30 ODIs and 46 T20 Internationals. According to reports, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has told the players involved in the WPL that if they remain in India till the end of the T20 league, their names will not be considered for the first three T20 matches in New Zealand and they will May miss the tour. It is expected that the ECB will announce the England team next week. Apart from Knight, Lauren Bell, who was supposed to play for UP Warriors, withdrew her name from the WPL on Friday, saying her priority was to prepare for the New Zealand tour.
